INVOCATION:
O light of joy eternal from the heart of the holy Spirit, Lord Maha Chohan, assemble with us beloved Chananda, beloved El Morya, Beloved Djwal Kul, beloved Kuthumi, assemble now with us and with the members of the Darjeeling Council as we deliberate life upon earth in 1980 and the fullness of the decade. Light of the Ruby Ray descend from the heart of Sanat Kumara and the seven Holy Kumaras. Beloved Lord Gautama Buddha, beloved Lord Maitreya, beloved Lord Jesus Christ, intensify now the Ruby Ray. Beloved Maha Chohan intensify the Holy Spirit, truly the entire Spirit of the Great White Brotherhood. We call thee forth ascended hosts of light to instruct us as to our roles as watchmen on the wall of world freedom. Goddess of Liberty and Lords of Karma come forth, let thy word be heard now in our heart and mind and ear. Ascended hosts of the Lord we implore thee to intercede in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and the Mother. Let the seven Mighty Archangels now light Mighty Cosmos secret rays, five secret rays for the initiations of Matter. Alpha and Omega , in the great Central Sun, elevate these hearts united in love for the victory of the age. Light of Aquarius, light of St. Germain, violet flame transmute the cause and core of discordant world conditions. To thee we sing, O beloved Saint Germain. Now let freedom bells ring.
LECTURE
We welcome you to Harpstrings of Lemuria as we join together again our pursuit of the teachings of the Ascended Masters, of the memory of the Ancient of Days, to apply these to our very current, personal and planetary crisis.
This afternoon our beloved, this afternoon our beloved Chananda of the Indian Council of the Great White Brotherhood has been invited by beloved El Morya and Lord Gautama to speak to us concerning world conditions. Saint Germain expects Keepers of the Flame and all light-bearers in every walk of life to be aware of and on top of personal and planetary conditions, community conditions and the light of God that never fails that comes forth as the Summit Beacon from your own summit of being penetrates every phase of life. Religion then, which is the sum of man’s union with God must penetrate every phase of life- politics, economics, education, law, culture, music art, science – the entire human institution. Beloved Chananda has come to us with an analysis of a very specific condition that is happening today. I have drawn his solutions that I am going to read to you from Pearls of Wisdom that he dictated many years ago. They are very applicable to current crisis. Then he himself will address us. As we are to dip into his flame we would like to sing to him, and I would tell you that he is a very familiar and personable ascended master. He heads the Indian Council of the Great White Brotherhood. He wears white and a white turban, very tall, majestic, and someone whom we all know very intimately. He is frequently at the Darjeeling Council Table, and he is concerned, of course, with the affairs of India as the Council of the Royal Teton is concerned with affairs of the United States of America; but their concerns are not limited by the boundaries of their nations. All of the spiritual life, the many gurus and teachers, also come under Chananda, those who are functioning on Indian soil. The culture and its continuous descent of the mother from Lemuria is what Chananda is all about, and the application of that culture to life as it is being lived today.
In the midst of this beautiful gathering of light, and on meditation upon the etheric plane, the etheric retreats and the etheric cities of light we find that the earth, earth is in crisis. We say as usual in crisis. The Middle Eastern crisis has accelerated this very week probably as you were journeying to this conference. We are concerned with the events in Afghanistan because Chananda is concerned, El Morya is concerned, Lord Gautama is concerned and St. Germain is concerned. They are determined that we be informed and that based upon this information, they then give to us the necessary teaching whereby we in the very onset of this crisis can take the action of light through dynamic decrees. When you give general decrees to the violet flame, to beloved Astrea, and to Archangel Michael, you increase the planetary vibration of those masters and their consciousness. You increase the levels of joy, of truth, of Christ awareness by individual people and all who are attuned with those vibrations. When there are very specific conditions and problems, it is then that the Keepers of the Flame come with very specific dynamic calls on those conditions. Our effort is always to encircle the cause and core of discord, of opposition to the light, to be non-partisan and non- political in the sense of not taking sides right or left, but to be aware of the total situation. We realize that the fallen ones who move in and among the people in all nations pursue a divide and conquer strategy, that the attempt to compartmentalize people into groups and factions, political systems in nations themselves and to destroy them by the very process of division. Nevertheless, in the midst of circumstances, the Christ consciousness, there must be an exposure first of all of the principles of anti-life and anti-God and anti-good and anti-Christ. When we can understand by the standard of the Christ that the Great White Brotherhood gives to us what is real and what is unreal, then we must also determine those who have elected to embody the flame of reality and those who have determined to embody the non-flame of unreality. Then we need to understand that those who are vortices of discord and disturbance, degeneration in the world community, need to be encircled by Astrea. Archangel Michael needs our calls that these individuals can be bound, as the Lord Christ taught us to do, so that they may no longer continue to disturb the world community. And so, the intercession of Saint Germain’s watchmen on the wall of world freedom determines, it demands, that we must have Christ discrimination, the ability to discriminate truth and error and light and darkness. But in the event that we may, at some point or another, align ourselves incorrectly, we know that the dynamic decrees encircling the conditions and the people involved release the light of God that consumes only unreality that separates out concepts and people that reveals to a greater extent to the entire world community what is acting. And so because we call in name of the mighty I AM Presence and the Christ self, we have thereby asked God to enter in to our prayer and our dynamic decree, so that in asking, if we ask amiss, our prayers are adjudicated and adjusted by the Christ Self who is the discriminator of good and evil. I think this is very important for those who are coming to our conference to understand: that we pursue spiritual truths, not for entertainment, not for the sheer enjoyment of it all, though we do enjoy it, though we are joyously entertained by the angelic hosts. No, we seek the cup of God that we might first drink and receive our initiations and be baptized, but the purpose of the Path is to save humanity from all the ills of our time and space. To save humanity from such ills, we must know what these ills are, and who are the perpetrators of these ills. Thus, we study world conditions from many angles, and thus, with that enlightenment, that awareness that the illumination flame brings, we are able to have a more powerful penetration of dynamic decrees, not merely a step-up of light on the planet, not merely a beautiful roseate atmosphere, but the very specific pinpointing and transmutation of error. So the crisis we examine with this goal in mind is that of Afghanistan. I was saying to someone this week that our children in America, and even children of our own families often do not realize how important the teaching is. The teaching of the Ascended Masters is the solution, the great God-solution to every human problem. Now, if those who are in the human equation know not that they have a problem, why will they need a solution? That’s a very important point. If an individual does not know that he is sick, he will not know that he requires a physician. We have a sick society and a sick earth today. It is evident to most people. The problems that are mounting and complicated require the God solution. Now there is the God solution on whose presence we stand, the mighty I Am Presence. Now we must examine what is the problem. We will look at the problem of Afghanistan in order to know how and why we are applying specific points of the law as solution.
First of all Afghanistan is strategically located between Soviet Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent, it is officially known as the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, it is a remote land-locked mountainous nation about the size of Texas. Its immediate neighbors are the Soviet Union, Iran, Pakistan and China.
Now that alone should tell you the tremendous import of that nation today. Hardly a nation which normally merits headlines, recent events have thrust Afghanistan to the forefront of world attention.
On Thursday, December 27, 1979, former deputy Prime Minister, Babrak Karmal staged a military coup during which he overthrew and executed Afghanistan’s former President Hafizulah (Ha fiz u lah) Amin. This was the third coup in Afghanistan since 1978. All three coups were by pro-communist leftists. Each of these coups has led Afghanistan more firmly into Moscow’s orbit. The last one was organized, engineered and conducted by the Soviet Union itself. So this week, two days before Christmas, there is the murder of the President of Afghanistan by a Marxist rival backed by the Soviets and the coup is in full swing. Well, these things just don’t suddenly happen. There is a background and a history to be aware of.
Why is the Soviet Union interested in a mountainous, economically impoverished nation whose population of 20 million is so rebellious that it has gained the reputation of being the most ungovernable nation in the world? The answer is Afghanistan is of great geopolitical importance. The major crossroads in Asia, north and south and east and west, pass through Afghanistan. Its control of the Khyber and Bolan Passes has historically made it the gateway which links Russia with Indian subcontinent and the Middle East with the Orient. Thus, historically, its pivotal geostrategic position has made it a focus of conflict between rival empires.
In the 19th and 20th centuries, Afghanistan served as a buffer state between Czarist Russia in Central Asia and Great Britain in India. In modern times, Afghanistan was considered to be a barometer of the general balance of power in Central Asia. Consequently, when Afghanistan became a Soviet satellite in 1978, many were disturbed by a sudden shift in regional power in favor of the Soviets.
The Soviet Union’s interest in Afghanistan has recently increased proportionately with their interest in the Middle East. The Soviet Union would like to control Iran and Saudi Arabia as a means of satisfying its own energy requirements and also as a means of denying oil to the energy-dependent West. Afghanistan forms a land bridge between the Soviet Union’s southern province of Turkestan, where there are large Soviet bases, and Iran and Pakistan. Pakistan, the Moslem nation bordering on India. So you see, Afghanistan is only one state away from India. This is an open door in that direction.
Over the past 10 years, the Soviet Union has spent 600 million dollars building a modern highway across the Khyber Pass that connects the Soviet Union and Afghanistan. Presently the road is used primarily by an occasional fruit peddler walking his donkeys back and forth between two nations. Most observers consider it highly unlikely that the soviets would have invested their scarce resources in such a technically challenging feat to facilitate a trickle of trade between two nations. A more realistic explanation is that a modern highway across the pass will allow the Soviet Union to drive its armored columns into both Iran and Pakistan in one day. Hence, in the aftermath of the pro-Soviet coup of April 1978, Middle Easterners became aware that it was one part of a Soviet strategic move to encircle the Persian Gulf oil reserves in a giant pincher movement – the other pincher rising up from South Yemen where the Soviets have their KGB residential and substantial military force.
We need to draw a circle around the Middle East because the Soviet Union has drawn a circle around the Middle East. Moving into the African states, moving into South Yemen, into Ethiopia, they have determined to seize the Middle East, to control it, to control the Mother’s oil, to control energy to manipulate that energy for the defeat of Western Nations. This is a very serious crisis. It is even more serious because not until the Iranian crisis has the United States even lifted its head in objection or in challenge to growing planetary crisis. What we face as Keepers of the Flame today is determination to support a strong policy in the Middle East in the face of this threat to take over the lifeline of our energy resources. These energy resources need only be our lifeline until in the decade of the 80’s we put together our own independent energy system within this nation which is entirely possible, but at the present moment because of our own politics and our own energy policies we are in a position, as you well know, of being very dependent upon OPEC nations. These are primarily Moslem nations with the exception of Venezuela, primarily Arabs, primarily laggard evolutions that have settled in the white chakra of the Middle East. Chananda in his instruction mentions the laggard evolutions. The term laggard refers to lifewaves who have lagged behind the acceleration of the Christ consciousness in their home planets. They have determined to maintain a status quo of materialism and not to accelerate into higher octaves. They have not accepted the personal Christ, the personal I Am Presence, the personal path of transfiguration, the crucifixion, the resurrection and the ascension. They have determined rather to continue the round of reincarnation to enjoy the good life in Matter. And, therefore, to control material life to their own ends. Therefore, they have a long history in other systems of worlds where they have come from at the control of material resources that are necessary to the control of political situations upon their planet home stars and to the control of the resources that they have to control in order to control the way life goes. So it is well known in the Darjeeling Council and in the Indian Council that the evolutions of Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, South Yemen – these peoples in the entire Middle East, so many nations there, are the laggard evolutions. They have settled there because it is the planetary forcefield of the Mother chakra, the white light. And it is the Mother chakra, the mother center that governs life in Matter or on earth. And it is the Mother light that actually is the sacred fire behind the oil deposits that are found there. And so it would be natural among those evolutions who have long pursued the control of the abundant life of the Mother for her children to settle in that geopolitical center of this planet to place their roots there and to lay their claim to that land mass and those energy resources. Now these laggard evolutions have come from the planet called Maldek between Mars and Jupiter – you will note the asteroid belt that was destroyed in the playing around with their nuclear energy. It is the record in the solar system of what can happen when individuals are not governed by love. It is a manifestation of such intense hatred as can scarcely be imagined. We see only a tinge of it today in the relentless hatred between the Arabs and the Jews. There are many factions of hatred in the Middle East of the minor tribes of theses nations, the separatists. And you hear the world opinion of the Afghanistans being the most rebellious of all peoples. That rebellion is against the authority of the Father and of the Mother. It is the rebellion against the personal Christ and against the path of initiation. It is the desire to be a law unto oneself which is the basic pattern of the nomads. The basic pattern of life in the Middle East for thousands of years has been based on these individuals who can scarcely get along with one another, and therefore, they have destroyed their home planets. Another destroyed planet, an asteroid belt close to the sun, has been called Hedron. The laggard evolutions coming from that planet are more known for their indulgence in the pleasure cult. They are known on earth as Hedonists, and they also are enjoyers of the status quo of the good life. And so you have numbers of types of laggards, and what their particular emphasis is depends on what part of the path of the seven rays they have disqualified. Understanding the situation of laggard evolutions upon earth is an absolute necessity even in the very first day you enter the path of keeping the flame of world freedom because you come to understand that when entire evolutions and lifewaves, groups of people, have distinctly different goals than those which are shared in common by people of the Judeo-Christian tradition or even of Hinduism or Buddhism or even of the religion of Zoroaster. You find that you cannot deal with these individuals as you would deal with those who have God as their goal and world peace as being far more important than the coming out on top of these ancient feuds. The feuds in the Middle East are ancient. They go back to their own planetary bodies. So attached are they to these feuds that they become more important than life itself. In other words, they would rather die than give in. And this is what you find in the Middle East, people ready to die for their cause of a holy war and very much the puppets of their false gurus who have come with them from their destroyed planets. So many, many evolutions ago the earth was host to this laggard lifewave, and they came, they came to be given a final opportunity to learn to love the Lord Christ, the Prince of Peace, both in the Lord Christ and finally and ultimately in his revelation of the personal Christ Self. Now you understand why the Lord Jesus Christ went to the Middle East on his mission – because he came to save that which was lost, the laggard evolutions. And in and among them there embodied the true people of light who’ve been called the Israelites, the seed of Abraham of the Ancient of Days in and among them. And those who did not intermarry with the laggards have continued to carry the flame of the Ancient of Days unto the present hour. The dispersal, the dispersal of those children of the light as well as of the laggard evolutions mixed in and among them through Babylon and Assyria resulted in the loss of the line or lineage of their descent. We find them reappearing and reincarnating again. And Sanat Kumara is speaking in his Pearls of Wisdom about the seed of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh, reincarnated in the British Isles, so, today, what we must not do is stereotype any people. Many light bearers and angelic hosts have volunteered to embody in the laggard nations, not merely the Lord Jesus Christ and those who followed him. And so coming in their very races and among these people are those of light; teachers, philosophers, great leaders and we see them emerging here and there. And so you can never say that all people of this or that type or this or that nation are of this particular persuasion or laggards. We say in general the Middle East is populated by laggard evolutions. But among them are beautiful souls of light, those who love light, do love the Lord, and if they would be listened to by those whom they came to teach, the Middle East would not be in crisis today. So your Christ discrimination must always give to you the awareness of who is who, and this awareness that the Middle East is the center of laggard evolutions is only for our understanding of how to decree about the problem. Sanat Kumara has told us in the Pearls about an astral group of souls on the astral plane called “laggards against the light”, and some of these are also in embodiment, about a group of laggards who have sworn enmity against the Christ and against the light and the teaching. So we know that there are very entrenched laggards and there are, we know, that there are those who by the very process of having been embodied on earth and received the light of the avatars have actually advanced and made progress in their continuing incarnations. So the opportunity was given long ago by the Karmic Board for these laggard evolutions to be here. The Karmic Board expected when they gave them that opportunity that the sons and daughters of God upon earth, the children of Light, the emissaries of the Ancient of Days would have that God determination and that self mastery to take control of these laggard evolutions, to bring them into alignment, to use the gifts that they had been given by the ascended masters and their teaching at inner levels to not allow these laggards to become the tail that wags the dog of the entire planet. We find that instead it has become just that. We find that today our President has taken a strong action and has rebuked the Soviet Union for this coup, but we do not know where these words will lead. So let us explore the situation so we can continue our discussion of its solution.
All the pro-Soviet coup d’etats in Afghanistan have been bloody affairs. The first, on April 27, 1978, was a hastily improvised action precipitated by President Muhammad Daoud’s (Da oud) crackdown against Communists inside and outside of his government. The People’s Democratic Party led by Nur Mohammed Taraki (Ta-ra ki), which had been laying the ground work for a future coup, was moved to action by Daoud’s preemptive move. The result of their successful takeover was a premature seizure of power which left the People’s Democratic Party unprepared to administer the nation once it established itself in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital.
While there seems to be no concrete evidence of their direct involvement in the April, 1978 coup, the Soviet Union played a role in reunifying the fragmented Communist parties in Afghanistan which were split at the time.
The Soviet Union offered to ordain Taraki as the leader of a unified Communist Party if he could reach a reconciliation between his own Khalq (kalk) Party with the Parcham faction. The Kalq faction was larger, more dynamic, and more radical and drew its strength from rural areas, while Parchams were more pro-Soviet and drew most of their support from university students.
I would point out to you that these are ancient, ancient laggard groups with ancient rivalries which they have brought with them century after century. It is difficult for us to understand how people can retain within the forcefield of their identity these age-old hatreds, but believe me, it is so. I have worked with, at the United Nations, peoples from these various nations and from their governments, and I have found them to be absolutely intransigent. I actually chose to live with Arabs when I worked at the United nations so that I could discover what they were like, and I was totally amazed to find such an intensity of hatred existing on this planet inside of a human heart. I would like you to understand that all of the people who come to the United States and become citizens and those who are born there are initiated by the Goddess of Liberty. She is the Mother and the Mother flame who initiates us. She transfers a portion of her Threefold Flame of life to our hearts. It is a pink flame of tremendous intensity, and it is a transmutative light of liberty, the same light of liberty that in the heart of St. Germain is the violet flame of transmutation. It is that flame which distinguishes Americans from every other people. This is why America can be the melting pot, why there are not factions and divisions and separations except those artificially contrived by the fallen ones promoting prejudice of every kind. America is a spirit of unity by the grace of the flame of the Goddess of Liberty. And so when we go abroad, and we visit nations where this flame has not initiated their people, we find tribal hatreds; they are all over Africa – rivalries, resentments. They can remember something that happened between them from centuries ago, tracing it back through the family, tracing it back through the tribes, and they have their perpetual vendettas. You know the story of Romeo and Juliet which takes place in Europe. The reason that they are kept separate is an old family feud between their two families. This exists in Europe today, and this is why Europe has been such a bloody battleground – because people refuse to forget. This is a very important instruction regarding the etheric body, the memory body. We’ve come for Harpstrings of Lemuria. Our music album by that title is designed to awaken your soul memory of the Ancient of Days, of Lemuria of your origin in God, and of your fiery destiny. To awaken those soul memories we must first have the sacred fire of transmutation to transmute the lower level of memories in the lower etheric body and the astral body of all misqualified energy of war and hate and hate creation. And so this recall of the ancient memory could only come as a conference after a body of devotees in this community for many, many years have sustained the flame to transmute portions of their subconscious so that that subconscious might be a receptacle for the higher memory of God. Why do people not remember their previous incarnations, their previous lives? Because they have so filled their etheric bodies with misqualified energy that to contact that misqualified energy in the past would only begin the churning of those old hatred and those old vibrations, and so the life span of Earth’s evolutions was shortened to avoid the continuity of the memory body. It was actually cut off. At the present time God does not want people to remember their past lives. All of a sudden you wake up one day, and you find that your closest friend was your most bitter enemy in a previous embodiment, and all of that comes to the surface and you become angry. Well, the great friendship you have in this life is for the transmutation of that old enmity. It is good that the memory is cut off until the love of friendship is so great that one can look back and say, “I forgive you. Please forgive me.” This love is far more important than this ancient animosity. Well, as the violet flame penetrated in this age, the first thing that will happen is that people will begin to have a continuity of self-awareness, and that is the basic requirement for the Path. Well these individuals harbor such hatreds, such envies in their subconscious. They continue lifetime after lifetime, and the great healing power of Mother Liberty and Saint Germain is the dispensation that God has given to the people of America because the Great White Brotherhood has chosen the United States of America to be its focal point of God Government in the Earth. And it has called to this nation those souls of light who have proven themselves worthy to receive those initiations through past effort. Sprinkled among all peoples, of course, are those who have not been servants of the light. Yet the sun shines upon the just and the unjust. The second Ascended Master nation sponsored by the Great White Brotherhood is India. I don’t say that in order, because America is not first and India second; they are equal in their sponsorship. Now, these are the nations that the Ascended Masters have chosen to sponsor, and there they have raised up the lightbearers to the Earth. And you will see in the spiritual peoples of India the great tradition of Hinduism, Buddhism and a certain amount of the Moslem faith. And those who are called upon to carry the light carry it by the sponsorship of the Great White Brotherhood. Now, I cannot tell you that every nation is sponsored by the Great White Brotherhood because it simply is not so. And even though we might desire an egalitarian attitude from the Great White Brotherhood, they have not had it. The nations of the Earth have rebelled against Saint Germain again and again, and against the Brotherhood to intervene. And so where there is not a certain quotient of people of light in a given nation that can hold a chalice, the Ascended Masters do not sponsor that nation. That does not mean that they do not sponsor individuals within those nations: it does not mean that they do not work with members of their governments, because they do. They work with members of governments of those nations who will work with them, and so they are attempting to bring all nations to the level where they can be individually and personally sponsored. But until enough initiates and chelas of the sacred fire rise up, those nations of a whole do not enjoy that sponsorship.
Now, getting on with this feud between the Khalqs and the Parchams which led to our discussion on these ancient animosities, we see that: After coming to power, Taraki imported Soviet ideological doctrine carefully camouflaged with semantic fig leaves in an effort to avoid needlessly antagonizing the entrenched power of the Moslem clergy. Nevertheless, the doctrinaire Khalqies strode arrogantly into the countryside, rigidly imposing a Soviet model for development, which failed to take into consideration the socio-political realities of Afghanistan’s semi-feudal, strongly religious, tribal, 17th century atmosphere. This is the entire challenge of the Middle East, of bringing the people and their culture to the levels of modern civilization. The Shah of Iran took upon himself that challenge, attempted to accelerate the people to the 20th century; they rebelled against him, and so you see what has occurred.
As soon as the party cadres filtered out in rural areas in an effort to gain control of the countryside, they met stiff resistance from Moslem mullahs (clergy)- who were extremely apprehensive about the new government’s lack of commitment to Islam, and landowners who were hostile to the communist land reform program and tribesman traditionally intolerant of the centralized power in Kabul.
The centerpiece of the regime’s modernization program, which tried to do too much too fast with little sensitivity to traditional values was an ill-fated and reform program wherein the government expropriated 3 million acres of and tried to redistribute it among 285,000 families in the first year. The net effect of their efforts was that Afghanistan, which had been self-sufficient in grain in 1973, declined so rapidly in grain production that they are now forced to import an anticipated 500,000 tons of wheat this year, mostly from the Soviet Union, who no doubt is selling them wheat at a profit that it buys from Canada and the United States because it cannot raise enough for its people either under this communist system and the land reform.
The reform campaign simply wouldn’t work. Much land went uncultivated because there was confusion about who owned it. Peasants frequently refused to accept land because under Islamic law the recipient is required to compensate the former owner for the receipt of the land.
The Taraki regime increasingly resorted to Stalinistic methods of repression in order to overcome popular resistance to its extremely harsh social engineering projects, mostly under the influence of its then number two man, Hafizollah Amin. In order to intimidate its opponents, the Taraki regime resorted to military force. This backfired, provoking a widespread, determined armed resistance which eroded the communist regime’s power, drained its resources, and increased its dependence upon the Soviet Union from April 1978 to the present at least 3,000 political prisoners were executed and many were imprisoned, including the wives and children of political prisoners. At least a hundred thousand civilians have been killed in a civil war that sprang up as a result of communist activities. One hundred thousand civilians. You see what an insidious force Marxism is. It can trigger these ancient rivalries and hatreds until the people themselves are killing off one another by the divide and conquer tactics of the fallen ones coming through the Soviet Union, sowing the seeds of unrest in the very fertile soil of their subconscious.
Preserving the tradition of communist takeovers, the new government sought to control or stamp out the educated elites, military officers, teachers, civil servants and businessmen. According to Amnesty International, these groups were especially singled out for the widespread torture and mass execution. Communist takeover in every nation has gone after the light-bearers in a very cult of Satan itself. The shedding of the blood of light-bearers has been the means to the actual continuation of the Communist machine, nation by nation, and the light-bearers are those who oppose the oncoming collectivism of the totalitarian Communist movement.
The Afghan mullahs were antagonized on two fronts. Many were landowners who saw their estates broken up. They were also antagonized by the establishment of a new legal system administered by a civil government rather than Islamic clergy. They quickly became aware of the fact that while the Taraki regime paid lip service to Islam, its true policy was to break the back of Islamic power by conducting purges of “false Moslems” who were in practice defined to be mullahs who opposed government policies.
The mullahs declared a holy war against the infidel regime in Kabul. During the course of the civil war, the Afghanistanian guerrillas, armed primarily with ancient bolt-actioned rifles made by village gunsmiths, controlled major portions of the country, occasionally extending the fighting to Kabul itself.
The 80,000 man Afghanistan army suffered approximately 10,000 casualties last year. Army morale is very low because of the casualties and also because of the repeated purge of military officers and the frustration of a protracted anti-guerrilla campaign. Consequently, there has been a high rate of desertion with entire units occasionally killing their officers and defecting en masse. What is very evident to me as this story continues is it sounds like another Vietnam, and it sounds like there is a very little way to get in and help these people because there are so many factions fighting so many factions, and there is indeed here an uncontrollable laggard evolution.
The Afghan armies were composed of conscripts taken in disproportionate numbers from the ethnic minorities, such as the Uzbecks and Turkumens, minority groups which also happen to be in the forefront of the revolt. Most soldiers are Moslems with no real commitment to the regime and are reluctant to shoot Moslems, particularly from their own tribes.
When Taraki came to power in April 1978, the Soviets had approximately 1,200 advisors in Afghanistan. By August, 1979 there were at least 4,500 Soviet advisors 1,500 of whom were military advisors assigned to Afghan army. Often they wore Afghani uniforms and joined in the day by day conduct of the war.
The soviet officers became more involved as the mutinies increased and the long-term reliability and staying power of the Afghan army became extremely questionable. At that point the Soviet Union supplied air power which was to decisively neutralize and defeat the rebel offensive. But it became clear that Afghan army, even with Soviet air power, was incapable of defeating the insurgents without a real significant escalation of the Soviet presence and a massive infusion of Soviet military technology which would have to be handled by Soviets or Eastern Europeans because the Afghans are not trained to operate it by themselves. I think you can see a cartoon where pretty soon there’s nobody on the battlefield but Soviets – Soviets in Afghani uniforms fighting Soviets, because everybody else has run the hills.
The Soviet Union began a massive buildup in Afghanistan in order to protect its geopolitical interests. You know, the Soviet Union could care less about Afghanistan or its people; it promotes the propaganda of doing all this good for the people – redistribution of land, land to people, etc. But it’s the same old story of the fallen ones- they chew you up, and they spit you out. And that is true of the devil when he determined to destroy an individual; it’s true of the fallen ones when they are determined to destroy a nation. The Soviet Union is today using Afghanistan. It doesn’t want it; it wants to get through it to conquer the Middle East. So the Soviet Union has begun this massive buildup in order to protect its geopolitical interests.
The magnitude of the Soviet effort increased. Four hundred Soviet personnel were reported to have taken complete control of Bargham airport, 40 miles from Kabul, in order to facilitate the flow of material which began arriving in seemingly endless procession of giant Antinov transport planes laden with Soviet weapons earmarked for Afghanistan.
April of 1979, the pace of the Soviet supply effort quickened after a high level military mission led by General Aleksei Yepishev, Chief Political Commissar of the Soviet Armed Forces and also a key figure in the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, arrived in Afghanistan to survey the situation. Immediately after Yepishev’s visit, the Soviet Union sent over 100 T-62 tanks, the newest Russian helicopter gunships, the most modern rockets, MIG-16 and MIG-21 fighters, and a number of bombers.
In October of this year Taraki was overthrown by Hafizollah Amin. Amin, referred to by Amnesty International as “the reincarnation of Joseph Stalin” because of his barbaric organizational methods and widespread torture and murder, staged a coup killing Taraki. Even though Amin may have been more pro-Moscow than Taraki, and even though Brezhnev and Kosygin sent congratulatory telegrams to him, Soviet leaders were probably less happy about his seizing the reins of power than they pretended to be. At that time, despite the massive military buildup, the Soviet Union was seeking a political solution to the problem of guerrilla warfare rather than merely a military solution. There was never any question whether or not the Soviet Union would abandon its drive to control Afghanistan, however.
The civil was extremely better. At one point 2,000 defecting troops went on a rampage during which hundreds of party officials and at least 20 Soviet advisors and their families were killed. In response, Kabul ordered an all-out attack, using Soviet helicopter gunships and jets which left some 20,000 Afghans dead in the streets. Whereas this crushed the riot, it reinforced the tribesmen’s conviction that the regime was merely an atheistic puppet of the Soviet Union. Under Amin, the civil war grew even more bitter.
What disturbed the Soviet Union most was the fact that Amin had totally lost all of his popular support in Afghanistan. Furthermore, his Kalq faction was equally unpopular. Consequently, any chance for a political solution while Amin was in office was impossible.
The Soviet Union was pursuing a dual policy of a military buildup, but was still holding out for a political solution. They sought to keep from having to directly engage themselves in battle in an Islamic country, especially where the chances of winning were marginal. True, the military power of the Soviet Union is so great vis-à-vis Afghanistan that if the Soviets made a concerted effort, no doubt they could win.
Nevertheless, it would not be easy. Many are of the opinion that Afghanistan is the Soviet’s Vietnam. Much of the guerrilla warfare is conducted in very rugged mountainous terrain where tanks cannot go and where jet planes do not frequently have a clear view of enemy troops. Hence, it will be difficult for them to defeat the guerrillas.
The old Afghan folk expression, “king for two days”, proved to be an accurate bellwether of Afghan politics. The Soviet Union determined to get rid of Amin.
The Soviet Union assisted former Deputy Prime Minister Babrak Karmal of the opposing Parcham Party, who had been exiled in Czechoslovakia, to stage a coup wherein Amin easy overthrown and executed. Details are not clear, but there was fighting in the streets of Kabul during the coup, and Soviet troops were involved. Although nothing of substance had really changed, the new regime immediately appealed to the Moslem clergymen to end the insurrection.
Concurrent with the latest coup, on Thursday, December 27 there has been a massive Soviet troop buildup in Afghanistan. The Start Department reports there are now more than 10,000 Soviet combat troops in Afghanistan. Other observers believe there are many more. In either case, there are 50,000 Soviet troops massed along the Soviet-Afghanistan border poised to move in. And they can move in very quickly over their six hundred million dollar highway.
The Soviet Union is seeking to blame all the past difficulties on “the bloody apparatus of Amin” which Soviet News Agency Tass says the new leader of the Afghan people has destroyed. Tass tried to blame the United States for its disastrous policies. They quoted Karmal saying that Afghanistan’s people were subject to “intolerable violence and torture from the bloody apparatus of Hafizollah H. Amin and his trenchmen, those agents of U.S. imperialism.”
At present the Afghanistan guerrillas are seeking the outside support they need to conduct the war against the Soviet Union. Most observers believe the outcome of the struggle depends upon the United States resolve – whether or not the United States has the will to check the Soviets by giving the Afghan guerrillas the diplomatic, media, and military assistance that they need to stave off the Soviets. Although no one is suggesting the United States intervene directly, the United States could see to it that intermediary nations provide the guerrillas with the needed supplies necessary to carry on their struggle. Furthermore, the Soviet Union is in an extremely vulnerable position. They have intervened militarily in a Moslem nation. If this were properly communicated by radio broadcasts to Moslem nations in the Middle East and to the Soviet Union’s Moslem republics, which lie on its southern border, which border Iran and Afghanistan; they are on the south, and there are millions of Moslems in the Soviet Union. If what is happening now in Afghanistan were communicated by the radio broadcasts, it could create a cataclysmic backlash both within the Soviet Union and the Middle East. This alone could slow down or considerable frustrate Soviet plans for regional or world takeover.
Today’s lead story in the L.A. Times suggests that this is the course of action that the United States may take. The Carter administration does not have a track record of directly confronting the Soviet Union in this way, however, and the present administration has been taking a low profile on their propaganda offensives against the Soviets.
In this case, the United States need only tell the truth about Soviet behavior, and the volatile Moslems will do the rest. Those who examined this geopolitical situation in the Middle East and even the internal problems of the Soviet Union consider the Moslem peoples the greatest threat to Marxism and to the Soviet Union, although it is certainly more than rumored that the Ayatollah Khomeini is backed by Communists, but of course they back whom they will; they use whom they will to get their foot in the door and then to take over and to destroy. But as a whole, the Moslems are anti- Communist because the Communists are atheists and because they have very strong ties to one another as brothers- all Moslems are brothers; they are one in their faith; they pray five times a day; they draw strength, they draw strength from that prayer; they represent a force that has to be reckoned with by the Soviet Union.
The Soviet Union had displayed military behavior of the boldest sort in the Afghanistan affair. In Angola they intervened with Cuban troops. In Ethiopia their participation was more direct. Soviet military advisors worked so closely with Ethiopian troops that were a large number of Soviet casualties. In this case the Soviets are directly intervening which indicates that the reward for keeping their entry route into the Middle East open is more important to them than the consequences they might suffer either through propaganda or military defeat.
Should the Soviets be defeated in Afghanistan – a strong possibility if the United States works to defeat communism there – it would do much to shatter their image of invincibility which they have gained as result of their steady expansion in the face of US retrenchment.
Furthermore, the Soviets seem to be so confident of their military power, which they expect to exploit more fully in the early part of the next decade, that they are willing to forego the Salt II Treaty whose ratification becomes more doubtful in light of Soviet military action. And they are willing to weather the bad publicity they might receive in order to see to it that the military route to the Middle East remains open to their tanks and armored columns. As such, the outcome of the Soviet involvement in Afghanistan is of critical importance to the United States and the West. We’ve learned our lessons in Vietnam. We see as we send troops, they send more troops, and it’s a trickling in of men from the Soviet Union, from Red China, from the United States, all of whom are killed off in this war. And so, I for one, cannot see any reason why the United States should intervene directly militarily in Afghanistan, that is landing troops upon the soil. But I do see the alternative of supporting those who are Afghanistanians, those people to whom the land belongs, by assisting them with food, medical supplies, and whatever military equipment that they require. However, that does not necessarily promise that the Soviet Union is going to be pushed back.
President Carter has dispatched a representative to London and Europe to contact the leaders of NATO to determine what collectively Europe and the West is going to do about this obvious extension of the Soviet Union into the Middle East and, as a matter of fact, anywhere it wills across the face of the Earth. You can see the pattern that they introduce Communism and Marxism through their agents, through training students in the universities; theses nationals come to power; the Soviet Union backs the political party that’s in power. If it doesn’t quite make it, it stages coups; if it still is faltering, it brings in troops. If this is allowed in Afghanistan, it will be repeated nation by nation through Africa, the Middle East, South America, until all that is left of the flame of freedom will be Europe, the United States and Canada, Japan, perhaps Australia and India. So it’s a very serious matter. The United Nations decided the military maneuvers of the United States in Vietnam with the Soviet Union having veto power and its generals being made aware of all of our military plans before they were approved by the U.N.. Our men fought under the U.N. They died under the U.N. because the U.N. is controlled by the Soviet Union today in the Security Council where they have their veto power. So since the United States is determined through the Carter administration to get the U.N.’s permission for every move it makes, now seeking to get sanctions and hoping that the Soviet Union will not veto that which the Soviet Union has implied they will do, we realize that the United States does not seem to have in the person of President Carter an individual who has the courage to act as an individual. The United Nations is a place where people come from all over. There are more representatives of laggard nations in the U.N. than there are people of light. With the United Nations, our government, sponsored by the Great White Brotherhood, has placed itself, therefore, at the mercy of those who do not have the interests of freedom and liberty and peace at heart. And so, though it provides a window upon the motives of the individuals representing their nations, it does little to further the flame of world peace. But it furthers the ends of the Soviet Union and its member nations. So, the United Nations, which was in its inception a Communist design for world takeover, is not the Ascended Master solution to world freedom or world peace. And yet the Ascended Masters have not decreed that the United Nations should be dismantled because of this very point. They feel its very presence and the actions of those who come there will give finally the revelation to the world and to the American people that these ones are not capable of deliberating that peace. This was very evident to me as I was at the U.N. in a position to come to know theses delegates personally at a social level and at a professional level, and I found them not to be those instruments of the Prince of Peace, but they were one-world people in the sense of the control of peoples and nations in the game of international power politics. It’s very disillusioning to see what is really going on at the United Nations. And it is something we live with until we can transcend it. So the situation, then, of any direct military confrontation by this government may or may not be placed under the U.N. Security Council by our president, and if it is, it is then under the Soviet Union. So it goes round and round in circles, and if the United States is not going to win a war, it has no business getting into a war, and that is what happened in Vietnam. It wasn’t there to win; it was there to be a puppet of the U.N. , and really the goal of the U.N., i.e. the Soviet Union, was to defeat the United States, and so that is exactly what happened, and unless we change our modus operandi in war and in peace, we might as well not even begin. So what is before us in this situation is the determination to invoke the light that will literally pump so much light and God consciousness into the light-bearers of America that we will be free from this sham of the U.N. and from this attempt to first unite with our so-called allies in these situations and to recognize that a nation under God, sponsored by the Great White Brotherhood must be responsive to the Great White Brotherhood rather than to its enemies. It’s a very difficult situation; it’s very threatening; it’s disturbing to the Great White Brotherhood and to the Darjeeling Council at the turn of the decade. The turn of the decade is the turning of the page. What the Soviet Union has told us is that they want the Middle East, and they are not afraid to show their true colors in this moment. Why have they shown their hand? Why are they emboldened? Because of the great turmoil in Iran, the very weakened situation there, the economic decline due to the ineptness of the Khomeini regime; and therefore, to them, as they have a certain strategic window, they have an advance in their overall military superiority over the West. They see Iran in the coming months will reach a point where it is ready for the strike because of the civil disorder and their infighting, and because of perhaps the cutting off from the West. They see that it is time to move in and seize the oil. What they are doing is the age-old move that the fallen ones make: they underestimate the light-bearers, and they play their hand, and they play their hand too soon and too quickly. They have overconfidence. The mark of the fallen ones, the fallen angels is they reach a point of overconfidence. They believe in the decadence of the West; they believe that we have a weak government that has never before taken action in their steps into Africa, and so they move ahead at the cost, perhaps, of public opinion. They have never used, they have never had the United States use a propaganda tactic against them. We haven’t blared all over the radios of the world and Eastern Europe all of the maneuvers we have made. We have accepted their lie, and you know the serpent always want to be concealed, and so we have said we won’t talk about such things because they are not pretty. And so we have not sought to arouse the populations of nations with the propaganda, which propaganda simply means advertising, with the information of the truth of what the Soviet Union is doing. The Moslem population in the Soviet Union no doubt is not aware that its Moslem brothers in Afghanistan are under this extreme duress. So with the proper use of communication – satellite radio, our information to these peoples could cause them to rise up and overthrow the Soviets; and that defeat by the Moslems of the entire Middle East of the Soviets in Afghanistan would be a critical psychological blow to the Soviet Union, who until now considers itself unopposed and undefeated in its worldwide expansion. As you know one of the people who are most angry at the moves of the Soviet are the Red Chinese themselves. They are very angry over the expansion of the Soviets throughout the world. So what move they will play in this affair is yet to be seen. We have been told that Cyclopea is the sponsor of Winter Quarter of Summit University. Well, we’ve also heard that in the eye of Cyclopea is the decade of the eighties. The Elohim of Cyclopea has a very penetrating energy of the emerald ray. We are grateful to be able to invoke Cyclopea in communications, in the media, in journalism, in television, for the truth to reach the people, for the error to be exposed. The people do not know they should be aroused. They do not know that they should be excited because what is said to us on the nightly television sets. If what we receive here is nothing better than the soup fed in the concentration camps, and that is what I deem the evening news in the United States – it’s watered-down soup – if that’s what we get, you can imagine what the peoples of these countries get. And furthermore, there’s a massive propaganda campaign in Iran and Afghanistan by the Soviets of anti-Americanism; and the hatred is intense. That propaganda has gone on in Red China for years and years – name calling of the United States, talking about all the terrible things that go on here, showing the worst types of movies representative of Hollywood – the gangster-type movies, so that these third world nations have a very, very low image of what America is today. We have made some use of the use of film and Radio Free Europe and of the Voice of America and so forth, but we have not done nearly enough. So first, and foremost, Chananda is telling us that we must give our invocations in this conference for the ray of truth of Cyclopea to be upon the people of, of Afghanistan that they might see who is the adversary, that those who have been led to become Communists realize that these are fallen ones with their divide and conquer tactics and their death culture, murdering their people and seizing their power. Second, the world needs an immense quantity of violet flame. The violet flame into the Middle East is designed to soften and transmute these age-old hatreds and these vendettas. They are not invoking the violet flame; we must invoke it. Whether or not you have compassion for the laggards who have rejected God for eons, remember, they are about to destroy the platform of evolution of this planet as a whole, and like it or not, we’ve got to invoke the violet flame for them so they can begin to feel the flame of love and unite at least within their own nations against encroachment of the Soviet Union. Now, the propaganda against U.S. imperialism has been going on for years and years. U.S. imperialism is the extension of international capitalist corporations into these nations to the extent of gradually controlling their economies; oil companies, various technology companies of all sorts, and these corporations have come to be greatly resented. However, their presence in many areas has been highly constructive, but nevertheless, it is the standard line, and so it is part of the International Capitalist/Communist Conspiracy. All American people today are blamed for these corporations and what, for whatever they have done. And so all of these populations are in a frenzy, as you see in Iran every night on the television set, against the United States. And so if you’re against the United States, you’re going to accept a helping hand from the Soviet Union. This strategy they have built for years and years and years of indoctrination, and of course, those who have been the selfish capitalists and the power elite, the internationalists who are not loyal to America or to freedom or to Saint Germain, they have given a very bad image, and they have abused these nations. And so the American people are blamed for what the power elite have done in our name; and this is why there is such hatred abroad in the land, such anti-Americanism, and this very propaganda is what could trigger the, the all-out third world war or fourth world war, if you accept that the third world war has already been fought and lost by the West, as Solzhenitsyn has said. The point is, the absence of communication, the keeping of the people in ignorance is putting us in the most dire condition today. We have talked about the media and the image they have portrayed of our own organization, making the people entirely ignorant of what is the true path that is presented here. The media is omnipotent. It can take any subject, distill it, and present it to the people, and that is what they are fed, and they have no other source of information. We have controlled media in the United States. You have seen coming to the fore in recent months all kinds of new stations, and through satellite they expect in this decade the coming of many, many independent stations that will finally defeat the, the monopoly of CBS, NBC, and ABC. We welcome this; we must decree for it; we must decree for independent people all over America to be able to have their channels and their radio waves to present the truth because our news is so managed that we can scarcely understand what we are to do next in our own situations at home. I think it is important that we decree, and that I not try to figure out the beginning and the middle and the end of the solution to Afghanistan. I think that developments will occur in the next four, these three remaining days, and that I’d like to give you the spiritual teachings of Chananda which he has dictated and give the opportunity for him to speak himself on the subjects that are important to him.

Who is Chananda?
Chananda is the chief of the Indian Council of the Great White Brotherhood. His sister is the ascended lady master Najah.
Embodiments
Chananda was a scholar on Mu and lived in the city of the seven hills where San Francisco now is.
He was also embodied at the time of Jesus and knew the Master in Judea. He saw his radiant magnetism and “perceived the Presence of immortality shining through his outer garment.”
His service today
To certain unascended chelas, Chananda has demonstrated the extraordinary powers available unto all of the ascended hosts. On one occasion, he levitated himself, Godfre, Rex and Nada, Bob and Pearl (then unascended) on a “magic carpet” (a sheet of metal covered with a Persian rug) eleven thousand feet into the atmosphere to enjoy the view of a valley.
Chananda came forth in 1937 to assist Saint Germain to implement his plan for the freedom of the earth, as did his sister, the ascended lady master Najah, in 1938. He assists the governments of the world, while she works with the youth, often appearing as a young girl in parts of India and China, teaching and helping the people.
Chananda is currently working on a top-priority project with the Darjeeling Council and unascended initiates of the Brotherhood. Part of this project involves the precipitation of a golden-age government based on the principles behind the Constitution of the United States. This God-inspired document was released to America by its founder, the ascended master Saint Germain; and when properly used and followed, it will provide the key to a golden-age civilization that is just beyond the horizon.
Chananda is particularly concerned with the problems of racial and religious divisions between people and with the future of India. He outlines the path of peace as the way of overcoming:
India was won through nonviolence. We shun violence and exude the peace of the Buddha, which is the all-power of God. But we would have our chelas understand that when you depend upon the peace of the Buddha as the ultimate power, then it would be well for you to study assiduously the terms of that peace. For you must make peace with your God if you expect your God to provide that power in the hour when peace is challenged by absolute war….
I know whereof I speak. I remember in a previous incarnation as the battle raged all around me and I stood holding the balance in the midst of thousands and ten thousand. Blessed hearts, I stood in their midst holding the focus of the sacred fire. And do you know—they saw me not! I was not visible in the physical spectrum, though I was in physical embodiment. And thereby … by my unswerving allegiance to the light, which I owe to the Almighty and to him alone—I was that pillar! I was that fire! And thus they could not continue the battle. And they retreated on both sides, leaving me standing alone in the midst of the plain of the battle itself.
Call to beloved Chananda, the Great Divine Director, El Morya and Saint Germain for the proper implementation of the plans for God-government throughout the world.
