Ascension flame rising in the Messenger Mark L. Prophet
“Whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, if there be any praise, think on these things, O Holy Israel!”
The great reality of God, the immortal consciousness of God invested in every lifestream, I salute thee as the pure flame of Truth!
Man, made in the image of God is not his outer garment. But he is in truth the inner pulsating flame of life, blazing within the forcefield of his great identity, and manifesting upon the screen of life with a full-blown momentum of his great cosmic potential. When he enters into the consciousness that he is Light, and that in him there is no shadow of turning or of discord, man will outpicture the glory of God. And then they will no longer ponder as to whether or not one among them is a betrayer, and another is a servant of the truth. For all will know all as children of the Most High God.
I was present at the stoning of Stephen when embodied as Saint Paul, and in good conscience held the cloak while he was stoned. I believed that Stephen was against the Light of God, and in full zeal of consciousness I proceeded to bind the early Christians and cast them in chains, believing that I did God’s service.
Beloved ones, I later, on the highway to Damascus heard the voice of the Prince of Peace saying unto me: “It is hard and difficult for thee to kick against the pricks. Arise then, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou shalt do.”
Therefore, the time came when my eyes were opened and I knew the unfailing Light of God in the heart of every man. And I realized that Stephen was indeed a chosen and elect of God. And my vision of him was altered. And I perceived in retrospect a magnificent consciousness. But, beloved ones, we have clasped our arms, and hands, and our hearts to one another many times since; but if it were not for the great law of forgiveness, the great law of life, this could not have been. But because the great law of forgiveness is active upon earth, and is active in the higher octaves to produce perfection and sustain it, so that all discord, and all causes of stain upon the pure white consciousness of man are removed by the compassion of God, and the violet fire.
Beloved ones, ponder and pause to consider the action of the greatest law, the higher law of light, the law of forgiveness. Mankind today are ever so aware of the law, even as I myself, having sat at the feet of Gamaliel, was aware of the law, and knew it intimately, and understood the righteousness of the law. But the law of God, written within the heart‑-this stirs me to this moment. And I would stir your hearts this day to the eternal law of love.
I call your attention to the efficacy of that law‑-the law of forgiveness whose cup brim-full runneth over with compassion into the waiting chalices of men’s hearts and causes them to melt and to dissolve that hardness in their feelings which is the result of their lack of forgiveness to themselves.
In past embodiments men have often recognized their own shortcomings. And as they realized that they themselves were not outpicturing the perfection of God, they continued to hunger for that perfection. But in that strange quality of human creation, they turned against themselves, but refused to acknowledge it. And preferred to impute it to another, blaming others for their own weaknesses and shortcomings because men desire always to rally to their own defense, to their own hurt. If they would come to the altar of eternal charity and say to their own beloved Mighty I AM Presence, “Mighty I AM God Presence, I recognize my own deficiency which is a result of my application to thee, and I would now come as an empty vessel to thy altar asking that I be filled with the God qualities which are contrary to the human qualities which I have expressed.” They would not go away empty-handed, but they would be charged with the energy of God, the compassion of God, the forgiveness of God, and that God quality which gains its victory.
Do you see, beloved ones? When mankind in their puny human concepts of themselves proceed to try to find how to express the living image of a Christ, and they cannot do so, because they are dependent upon their own mortal concepts, then, they come to the eternal flame‑-to the eternal spirit of the Christ. And they ask that that Christ flame expand and perform through their being the living action of God among men. Then, beloved ones, it is no longer they that act, but it is the Christ active within them as the principle of the sacred fire.
This is a mystery that is made plain this day. Theologians have argued for centuries concerning the where and the why of the Presence of God. Individuals have speculated as to the existence of God, they have speculated as to His presence in the universe.
Some have stated that Christ is here. And some that Christ is there. But the Christ himself, manifest in Jesus, said: “When they say Christ is here, and Christ is there, go not‑-for the Kingdom of God is within you.” And the Kingdom of God is within your beating hearts this day. And I say this not to you who are here alone, but to all who shall read, and hear or recognize this discourse given this day in the city of Washington, for the illumination and the glory of that great Ascended Being, Jesus the Christ. For I AM his advocate, as a member of the Great White Brotherhood, and one dedicated to the principle of Truth and the great law.
I AM the advocate of the living Christ‑-the living Christ activated in you. O beloved ones, when the season, when all life is hushed, comes in the month of December, and mankind begin to think once again of the tiny baby, the infant Messiah, their hearts turn to the eternal pines; their hearts turn to the fragrance of frankincense; their hearts turn to the spirit of light, and the star of the Nativity. But unless their hearts are consciously acknowledging the presence of the living Christ within them now, it is as though he were not yet born. For when the life flame is extinguished in a heart, and the recall of the spirit of man goes back unto God, the consciousness of that individual is no more at that moment aware of the outer plane of circumstance. And so, beloved ones, those who are not aware of the living Christ, are as they who dwell among the dead.
I AM concerned that the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God within their heart, and will arise and trim the lamps of their immortal presence, and call out in full understanding, “Behold, the bridegroom cometh, let us go out to meet him!” I AM concerned that the flame of illumination, the golden flame of immortal Truth shall live in human consciousness and cause men and women to desire to pursue virtue for its own sake.
For virtue is noble. Truth is noble. And every God quality is worth all that you have and ever shall possess. There is no part of God that is less than another. Every part is virtuous and wonderful. Therefore it is worthy that you, as a monad of the eternal one shall receive the Christ image inviolate within your being, shall partake daily of the sacred Eucharist at the heavenly altar of the divine communion with your God Presence, shall arise and say: “I will go unto my Father’s house this day; to your God, and to my God, and I will clasp His hands in mine, because He is in reality my Father, and your Father‑-my God and your God. He is Truth. And He lives today. And because He lives I, too, live. And the flame that I AM is the flame that He is. And the flame that I AM is the flame that I shall be.”
My friends of Truth, El Morya and the Darjeeling Council have saturated the atmosphere with the odor of the pines. Those of you spiritually perceptive may be able to perceive this wondrous fragrance in memory of the eternality of the Christ. The great magnificent outpouring of the angelic host that sing to him and to God, “Glory to God in the highest/ And on earth, peace, goodwill among men” are today spreading abroad throughout the earth a knowledge of God through various systems and ideologies.
Warfare conducted in the name of truth exists among these factions of the sacred faith. And division, and disunity, and disharmony have permeated the human atmosphere and disturbed the hearts of men. Let them recognize now the need to find in the compassion of the Christ flame within their heart that immortal consciousness which knows no limitation of creed.
Summit Lighthouse is intended to be a platform where all the earth may safely walk and expand the never failing Light of God. And therefore come and drink of the water of life.
Ho, all that are athirst, come and drink of the water of divine compassion; abide within the circle of the sacred fire; abide within the power of the three‑times‑three, abide within the heart of your Presence. And you cannot fail because you have anchored within the veil in that holy place where God is. Behold, beloved ones, how the sacred fire pours forth.
Behold, how the glory of God is magnified within you by Him, before whom all angels bow.
Behold the manifestation of God within your beings
I, Hilarion, declare to you in the name of Pallas Athena that God is. And God is Truth.
The Messenger that stands before you has had a special anointing of the sacred fire preparatory to this address this day, which has caused the very physical atoms of his body to change. And within him an action is taking place in preparation for his own ascension. Yet he shall walk among you for a time.
I AM a member of the Great Council of the Great White Brotherhood. I AM chosen to dignify truth, and as one who loves the healing arts and the science of God made manifest among men, I ask you to accept the challenge given you this day‑-to outpicture the beauty that is in you that no man can take from you. For God has given it into your hand.
In the holy name of Truth, I, Hilarion, bless you with the memory of the Christ eternal.
Thank you. And may his mantle of Light and his garment of the divine radiance enfold you now, from day to day, as each day uttereth speech, and as each day brings forth an intelling of the divine knowledge.

Announcement of the ascension flame rising in the Messenger Mark L. Prophet. In a dictation delivered through the Messenger Mark L. Prophet on October 7, 1962, the Ascended Master Hilarion announced: “The Messenger that stands before you has had a special anointing of the sacred fire preparatory to this address this day which has caused the very physical atoms of his body to change. And within him an action has taken place in preparation for his own ascension. Yet he shall walk among you for a time.” Hilarion made this announce-ment more than ten years before Mark Prophet made his ascension on February 26, 1973.
Mark L. Prophet, now the ascended master Lanello was called by El Morya to found The Summit Lighthouse and to set forth the teachings of the ascended masters for the Aquarian age.
Mark L. Prophet was the only child of Thomas and Mabel Prophet, born Christmas Eve 1918 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. As a child his mystical inclinations were apparent. He saw and frequently communed with angels and nature spirits. When he was nine yeas old his father died and it affected him deeply. Attending the Pentecostal church, praying by the hour at the altar he built in the attic of his home, the young Mark showed an extraordinary religious devotion. Before finishing high school he had received all nine gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Who is Hilarion?
Hilarion is the chohan of the fifth ray of healing and truth. He is the hierarch of the Temple of Truth on the etheric plane near Crete, Greece.
Embodiments
High priest of the Temple of Truth
Hilarion was high priest of the Temple of Truth on Atlantis, and he transported the flame of Truth together with the artifacts of the Temple to Greece a short time before the sinking of the continent. The focus of Truth that he established became the focal point for the Oracles of Delphi, messengers of Truth who served under the direction of Pallas Athena for hundreds of years, until black priests penetrated the Delphic Order and perverted the Truth that had been brought forth. The Brotherhood then withdrew this service to embodied mankind, since people were unable to distinguish between Truth and error.
Saint Paul
Hilarion was later embodied as Saul of Tarsus, who became the apostle Paul. Hilarion has recalled for us his encounter with the Christ in that embodiment:
Jesus the Christ we called him, and we were called of him as you are called this day. I recall the memories of his coming to me, empowering me with his Word. Yet first he humbled me on that road to Damascus, the humbling I sorely needed that I might bow to my own Christ flame that he revealed to me, as he also gave to me the key of meditation upon that flame that I might walk in his footsteps on the fifth ray of science and healing and apostleship and the preaching of the Word.
Often I felt like the hands and the feet and the heart of Hercules, wrestling with the downward spirals of the earth with their atheism, their agnosticism, their intellectual pride and rancor against the prophets and the Holy One of God so recently come into our midst. Yet, all the while I remembered I was once counted among them. To have been once so proud and so deliberate against the will of God would forever burn in my memory the helplessness that we all have as instruments of God. But the great empowering by the Word comes, my beloved, in the hour of the conversion. It is not the hour of the call, but the hour of the conversion when the soul answers with something that is deep. It is the flowing, it is the giving, it is that surrender when, as He said: “It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks….”
My soul knew Him as of old and recalled to my outer mind the memory of the inner vow. It was not the first time I had seen the Lord Christ. I had seen him before taking incarnation, and yet I had to work through that pride, that karma on the fifth ray of much learning, much studying and superiority in social standing and intellectual standing that I had in regards to the early Christians. And so, it was my own karma that was upon me whereby I was resisting the call.
My Lord did pursue me as I made my journey on the road to Damascus. Yes, beloved, I was blinded, not by his light but by my own sin and the alchemy of his light penetrating the record of sin in my being. Thus, I was turned around, converted by the Spirit of the Lord in the full manifestation of Jesus Christ upon me.
For a period following his conversion to Christ, Paul retreated into the Arabian desert. In Galatians 1:16–18, Paul records, “I conferred not with flesh and blood. Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia and returned again unto Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem.”
Commentators have often speculated as to what Paul did during his sojourn in the desert. Hilarion has explained that Jesus took him “with others into his retreat over the Holy Land and at Arabia. I have been there and learned of him. And this was my desert sojourn in meditation with him, taken up as I was in my finer bodies and trained directly heart to heart.”
Because in that lifetime the apostle Paul had consented to the stoning of Saint Stephen (the first Christian martyr) and had actively persecuted and killed Christians, he did not ascend at the conclusion of that life. The taking of life in one incarnation often requires another embodiment to balance that karma.
The ascended master Hilarion has explained why he was required to embody again before making his ascension:
Remember, then, that we, the apostles of Christ, did come under the dispensation of the Law that required that one balance 100 percent of one’s karma ere the soul enter the ascension in the light. Thus, I was required to atone in my life as the apostle Paul and in my next life as Saint Hilarion for the sins I had committed before I received my Lord.
Saint Hilarion
So Jesus, who raised up Paul to be his apostle, sponsored him in a final incarnation as Saint Hilarion (c. A.D. 290 to 372), the founder of monasticism in Palestine.
Hilarion spent twenty years in the desert in preparation for his mission and only then wrought his first miracle—God working through him, he cured a woman of barrenness enabling her to bring forth a son. From that day forward, he carried out a healing ministry.
He healed children of a fever by invoking the name of Jesus, cured paralysis and cast out many devils. Crowds would gather to be healed of diseases and unclean spirits. They followed him even into the most desolate and remote places. He tried many times to hide, but they always found him, compelling him to follow his true calling, for the love of Jesus.
Jerome, whose biography of the saint provides most of the information we know about him, records:
The frequency of his signs in Sicily drew to him sick people and religious men in multitudes; and one of the chief men was cured of dropsy the same day that he came, and offered Hilarion boundless gifts; but he obeyed the Saviour’s saying, “Freely ye have received; freely give.”
On the occasion of a great earthquake, the sea was threatening to destroy the town. According to Jerome, “The sea broke its bounds; and, as if God was threatening another flood, or all was returning to primeval chaos, ships were carried up steep rocks and hung there.”

Who is Mark L. Prophet?
Mark Prophet – the Ascended Master Lanello
Mark Prophet ascended on February 26, 1973 and is known as the ascended master Lanello.
Behold! I AM Everywhere in the Consciousness of God!
Mark Prophet opened the door to heaven for us all. That’s how we know what we know about the Brotherhood and the path of the ascension. This is the meaning of the thread of contact.
He held it for us and never let go of it until he could place it in our hands and trust us to not let go. This is the meaning of hierarchy and the lineage of all who go before and after us. This thread is fragile and so is the grasp upon it.
“Behold! I AM everywhere in the consciousness of God!” That’s the mantra of Lanello. And one day you can wake up and be there—not in the afterlife but right here and now, forever there and ever here. You can live in two worlds at once—in God’s consciousness and yet fulfilling your physical responsibilities on earth.
This mantra is, was and ever shall be the communion of the saints that transcends all octaves and time and space, worlds without end: “Behold! I AM everywhere in the consciousness of God!”
Mark’s Hope: Contact Your Higher Self
Mark’s hope for us was and is that our souls will rise in a burst of joy and creativity through the discovery that we can truly contact the Mind of God through the Christ Self and the sacred fire raised to the crown chakra. His hope for us is that the Mind of God in us will be the open door to eternity and to the fulfillment of the spirals of our Causal Bodies here on earth.
Why Mark Prophet Ascended
One of the key reasons that Mark took his ascension was to see to it that the children of the light upon earth might traverse the dark abyss of the astral plane and arrive at their proper position, either in the etheric plane or in the octaves of light.
He wanted to collect all of us together. And the only way he could do it was to be everywhere in the consciousness of God. And so he took his leave of us and ascended.
Mother gave us a message of hope after Mark’s ascension. She said, “I know that through the sacred heart of Jesus and the immaculate heart of Mother Mary, Mark, as Lanello, has a direct tie to every soul of light on earth. I know that you can pull upon his mantle at any hour of the day or night and speak to him. Tell him of a need, personal or planetary, and he will answer that need to the fullest extent that the Great Law will allow.
“And I know that he is as fiercely dedicated to liberating each one of you here today and all who shall ever read these words as he was and is to liberating my soul unto the final victory of the ascension.
“For those of you who are beginning to understand the meaning of the fusion of heaven and earth through the Presence of Lanello, know that you have a Guru that you can hug. Know that you can hold on to that mantle and that you can tug. Know that you can talk to him, whether about the most mundane and simple things or about the most complex laws of the universe.
“He could explain the stars and he could point out all of the plots and ploys of the fallen ones designed to make us indulge our human consciousness and to detract us from the path of life.”
Mark Prophet Loved People
Lanello is a man who always loved life and loved people. There is nothing that would have delighted him more than to have remained in embodiment for two- or five-hundred years going all over the planet, loving people and talking to them. He just loved to talk to people and never ceased to be interested in people of all sorts.
Mark used to travel across the country. And wherever he would go—a café, a drug store, a gas station—he would stop and talk to the working people. He loved the working people. Mark Prophet is the guru of the little people, the farmers, the laboring classes all over America—as well as everybody else’s guru.
And so for him, to ascend was the ultimate sacrifice so that we could arrive at this point to serve in our mission. Mark worked hard and he worked long. He loved enough to master himself. Self-mastery is the key to adeptship. And Mark certainly demonstrated this.
Lanello, our Ever-Present Guru
And now as the Ascended Master Lanello, he still holds this love for us all. You may contact the magnanimous heart of Lanello, our Ever-Present Guru, through playing the melody “Greensleeves.” The keynote of his identity is contained within the notes of this musical rendition.
Those of us who knew Mark have formed the habit of writing letters to Lanello, telling him of our wants and desires, our burdens, our hopes and wishes. We place these short notes either in our copy of Climb the Highest Mountain or in the Bible and leave them for Lanello to fill. And do you know, he answers almost all our ordinate desires—those that are in accordance with the will of God.
The answer is not always instantaneous, but it is fun to look back over our lists after a period of time and see how many have been answered. Perhaps you would like to join us in this exercise. It is not too late!
In Lanello we have our model for victory. He is our living Guru. Always remember that he is saying to you and to me, “You, too, can make it if you TRY! You can make it in this very life!”
Saint Germain has told us, “Death is either the doorway to infinity or a point of reentry whereby man must eventually return to the finite to undo and redo and to finish that which he has left undone.”
For Mark Prophet, death and hell were swallowed up in Christ’s victory. Truly, Mark lived and died and ascended for his principles and his loves, which were God’s. He exchanged the body terrestrial for the body celestial (1 Cor. 15:40) that we all might live. We have come to know one who walked among us, who knew God and who became one with his everlasting consciousness. He bids us do the same. He takes our hand. He shows us the way.
And yet, Mark traveled a long and hard road in this embodiment to find his way. It was not easy. He began a long, personal search, with many experiences and great disappointments in searching for God.
He found that the religions of the world, and even the alternative movements, were not always what he thought they should be. But he kept right on searching. And somewhere along the line, the Ascended Master El Morya made his appearance. We have all heard, “When the pupil is ready, the Teacher appears.”
